Give God The Glory

Psalm 29:1-3–“Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.  The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth; the LORD is upon many waters.”

I really hope you’ll read the whole Psalm; all the way through verse 11.  It will be a wise investment of your time.  It is the Word of God!

In this Psalm David is taking the occasion of a mighty storm that swept in from the Mediterranean Sea, made landfall in Lebanon, and with ferocious winds, mighty thunderclaps and awesome bolts of lightning travelled south over 150 miles to the wilderness of Kadesh (South of Jerusalem), breaking cedar trees, shaking Mt. Hermon (Sirion), and causing premature calving of deer.

David discerned and declared, “THERE IS THE POWER OF GOD ON DISPLAY.  GIVE HIM GLORY.  WORSHIP HIM IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS.  TRUST HIM.”

David was wise in this discernment.  He saw the might, wisdom, omni-presence, wrath, mercy, grace, and holiness of God reflected by all of creation.

Someone said that David had two books he read: the Book of Creation and the Scriptures.  He paid attention to both and the result was that he GAVE GLORY TO GOD, WORSHIPPED GOD, and TRUSTED GOD.

Most people willfully ignore the “mighty power of God” that they should be in awe of every day of their life.  Instead they proudly turn from the one, true, and living God and invent their own pathetic, puny, impotent, gods of their vile imaginations.  Take a look at Romans 1:18-20 in the King James Bible to see what I’m referring to.  I hope that doesn’t describe you.  If it does I urge you to repent and put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to save you.

David did not take that path to reprobation and damnation.  He gave the LORD glory, He worshipped the LORD in the beauty of holiness, and He trusted the LORD to give strength and peace.

I pray that you will follow in the wise example of David, the man after God’s own heart.
