Receive The Word Who Was Made Flesh–Part 2

THE WORD GIVING LIGHT AND LIFE

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:4,5).  Some say that the word “life” here is merely human life or reason.  John seems to overwhelmingly use the term referring to spiritual life.  In fact, the phrase “light of life” is found in John 8:12 where Jesus stated, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

From the creation of Adam, spiritual light and life was given from the Word, God the Son, the Light of men.  That light shone in darkness from Adam’s sin on through history and the darkness couldn’t comprehend or receive or understand it.  What or who is “darkness” in John?  Clearly, those who are lost who refuse the light; those who love darkness rather than light (John 3:19-21).

The WORD gave light to Adam and Eve, to Abraham, to Isaac and Jacob, to Moses… even to Nebuchadnezzar, to the prophets, and to Israel, the nation He used to give light until the New Testament era.  1 Peter 1:11 reveals that the spirit of CHRIST was in the Old Testament prophets who penned Scripture.  1 Peter 3 also states that Christ preached through Noah.  David wrote of God and His Son in Psalm 2.  Agur did in Proverbs 30. Nebuchadnezzar recognized Him in Daniel 3:25.  Yet, Cain didn’t receive the light.  Neither did Pharaoh.  MOST DID NOT RECEIVE THE LIGHT.

Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: nd they are they which testify of me.  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life” (John 5:39,40).   “In him was life.”  That is even before the Word became flesh.  “And the life was the light of men.”
Before the Word became flesh.  He was lighting the way of spiritual life, eternal life, but the darkness comprehended it not.

Do you see how John 1:1-5 are all connected with the “and” used six times?  Understand, you are reading about the WORD “in the beginning,” at creation, and giving life and light.  That WORD became flesh.  That is JESUS.  You need to be sure you have received the Word Who was made flesh.
